What Is Reflexology?

Reflexology is a protocol of manual techniques, such as thumb and finger-walking, hook and backup and rotating-on-a-point, which are used to apply pressure and stimulation to specific reflex areas predominantly on the feet and hands. These techniques stimulate the complex neural pathways linking body systems, supporting the body’s efforts to function optimally.  The effectiveness of reflexology is recognized worldwide by various national health institutions and the public at large as a distinct complementary practice within the holistic health field. (RAA 2016)

Libby is certified by the American Reflexology Certification Board (ARCB) and practices two distinct types of Reflexology; Classical Zone Therapy and Thai Reflexology.  Both are fabulous modalities aimed at triggering the relaxation response to bring the body into a homeostatic state, but use two very different techniques.

Your first Reflexology appointment In The Hills is 90-minutes and include an intake interview to assess your needs, followed by a 1-hour Reflexology session. Follow-up appointments can be scheduled for 60-90-120 minutes. Each reoccurring begins with manual stretching of the ankles, feet, and toes.  The stretching is followed with relaxing massage of the feet with shea butter (other options available) and essential oils, chosen specifically to address the client's concerns (physical and emotional).  Each session ends with a steaming towel compress and cleaning of the feet.

Classical Zone Reflexology uses alternating pressure applied with my thumbs and fingers walking over the entire foot.  The intent of this type treatment is to contact each and every one of the 7,200 + nerve endings (reflexes) that exist in the feet to affect the corresponding tissues mapped from the location of that particular nerve.  Most clients experience an extremely deep sense of relaxation from this type of session.

Thai Reflexology uses a more massage-like set of techniques in an ordered manner and for a certain amount of strokes.  This technique is focused on opening up the body's recognized energy lines (Sen), managing the body's energies in a holistic manner. It is recognized in Asian bodywork systems,  that when the energy lines are blocked, illness is able to set in.  Most clients experience a calm energy from receiving this type of session.
