Essential Oils for Spring Allergies
Its that time of year again. Along with the warmer days and the spring blooms come allergy symptoms. For natural allergy relief many essential oils can be used alone or in a custom blend. The recommended way to disburse the oils are in an essential oil diffuser or an inhaler. Below are a few commonly used oils to get you started toward easing allergies.
Eucalyptus oil - Helps open up the sinuses and lungs to allow your body to process the pollen more easily. NOTE: Due to its high levels of 1,8-cineole, it is recommended that you do conduct a "sniff test" on those who may have breathing issues, like asthma. If any tightness in the chest occurs from inhaling, do not use this oil.
Peppermint oil - is invigorating and boosts energy while clearing the sinuses and throat of congestion.
Lemon oil - is a happy, sunny scent that will lighten the mood while supporting the lymphatic system and helping clear the respiratory system. NOTE: Using Lemon oil topically can cause the skin to become photosensitive and cause it burn very quickly when exposed to sunlight. Do not expose treated skin to sunlight for at least 12 hours.
Lavender oil - a natural antihistamine and anti inflammatory to help clear the respiratory system and also is soothing to help with relaxation and rest. Both of which are needed for the body to heal.
